Scenography and Wayfinding at the Staatliches Museum Schwerin

The design of the new permanent exhibition at the Staatliches Museum Schwerin brings past and present into a lively dialogue. Old Masters are placed in relation to contemporary positions, while key groups of works are recontextualised within clearly structured thematic rooms and complemented by significant loans. Carefully framed sightlines, a clear spatial dramaturgy, and a finely tuned colour and lighting concept guide visitors through the exhibition. The new wayfinding system provides an overview of the museum’s diverse offerings and improves orientation. Digital and interactive elements compliment the artistic experience and broaden the appeal to a wider audience. The design works in dialog with the aesthetics of the newly restored listed museum building, creating a cohesive spatial experience with a strong atmosphere.
