Scenography in House Cavazzen in Lindau, Redesign of the Permanent Exhibition

The newly opened permanent exhibition at House Cavazzen in Lindau presents a carefully balanced interplay of historic architecture, scenography and narrative clarity. A restrained and contextually responsive approach to the baroque principal floor and the vaulted rooms preserves the full legibility of their spatial qualities.
Scenographic interventions – including installations addressing the medieval trade route of the “Lindau Messanger” – activate the architecture itself as a narrative medium. The exhibition is structured into three distinct thematic routes, each focusing on key periods in the town’s history. Duncan McCauley’s exhibition design follows an inclusive and interactive approach, combining media-based installations, audio stations, and digital maps. A highlight within the spectacular roof structure is a spatial, filmic installation that presents the myths of Lindau in the context of the town’s history. With the ground floor opened up as a cultural forum, complemented by bespoke-designed learning rooms and event spaces, the museum is expanded into an open and vibrant cultural venue. Here, past and present are brought together through a coherent and carefully articulated exhibition design.
