  • Richtfest James Simon Galerie – Museum Island, Berlin

    April 2016: Duncan McCauley were delighted to be present at the topping out ceremony and are looking forward to completing the permanent exhibition located in the new entrance building for the Museum Island.
  • Winner of the Red Dot Award 2016

    Duncan McCauley has won the Red Dot Award in the category of “Spatial Communication” for its concept design of the recently completed exhibition “Botticelli Reimagined” at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. With its 17,000 entries, the Red Dot Award belongs to one of the biggest worldwide design competitions. 

    We look forward to the winners’ exhibition taking place in Berlin, in November 2016!
  • Opening – Botticelli Reimagined

    March 2016: ‘Botticelli Reimagened’ opens in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. It is the largest Botticelli Exhibition in Britain since 1930 with over 50 original works. The exhibition tells the story of his rediscovery in the 19th century and how this has influenced art, design and fashion up until the present day.

    5 March until 3 July 2016.
  • Completion - Founders Picture Gallery – Royal Holloway, London

    March 2016: Duncan McCauley completed the new permanent lighting installation for Thomas Holloway's fine collection of Victorian paintings in the Picture Gallery. The new bespoke lighting brings both the collection with masterpieces from artists such as John Everett Millais und Edward Burne and the heritage space itself brilliantly to life.
  • Workshop – Masterplanning Strategies

    November 2015: Tom Duncan led a workshop at the The Future of Museum and Gallery Design conference in Hong Kong. Group activities encourage the participants, both designers and museum professionals, to engage with the idea of the museum as an experience and to think about the relevance of time and sequence as part of the museum planning process.

  • Successful tender process – Akademie der Künste Berlin

    September 2015: In cooperation with Polyform Duncan McCauley wins the tender process for the new permanent exhibition held at the Berliner Akademie der Künste, entitled ‘Information’s System Pariser Platz’.
  • Successful tender process – German Museum Munich

    August 2015: Duncan McCauley wins the invited competition for the design of the new permanent exhibition ‘Image - Text - Codes’, opening in the Deutsches Museum München in 2019. The exhibition deals with the current and historical phenomena of communication and media culture, and is characterized by its multi-perspective and interdisciplinary approach.
  • Opening – Fassbinder - NOW

    May 2015: The exhibition commissioned by the German Film Museum ‘Fassbinder – NOW’ in Frankfurt opens in the Berliner Martin-Gropius-Bau. The exhibition framework deals with presenting the work and methods of Rainer Werner Fassbinder, displaying their lasting contemporary relevance through works by top-calibre artists of today.
  • Opening – Luther and the Princes

    May 2015: ‘Luther and the Princes’ opens in Castle Hartenfels in Torgau. The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden exhibition is the starting point in the initiation of the national celebratory exhibitions for Luther’s Jubilee in 2017, dealing with the interdependencies between Reformation and Politics until the influence of today’s Protestantism.
  • Successful tender process – Victoria and Albert Museum London

    April 2015: Duncan McCauley wins the invited competition for the design of the touring exhibition ‘Botticelli Re-imagined’ at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. The exhibition deals with Botticelli’s oeuvre, concentrating on his art’s public reception through the centuries –from the renaissance to current art production. The exhibition opens mid 2016.
  • Successful tender process – Residenzschloss Weimar

    October 2014: In cooperation with Polyform we are pleased to announce winning the contract for planning "Cosmos Weimar – The Castle as a centre of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar"
. The project-scope includes museum and exhibition planning and interior design.
  • Workshop Central Saint Martins – MA Narrative Environments

    October 2014: Noel McCauley undertook a two-day workshop with the MA Narrative Environments students (Central Saint Martin, London) on the theme of emotional mapping and narrative design.
  • Successful tender process – Vischering Castle

    September 2014: We are pleased to announce winning the contract for the redesign of Vischering Castle in North-Rhine Westphalia. Working together with Polyform we are looking forward to the task of creating a cultural flagship for the region.
  • Opening – Bewusste Halluzinationen

    June 2014: The German Film Museum in Frankfurt am Main opens the exhibition ‘Conscious Hallucinations: Filmic Surrealism’. In the show visitors are invited to intuitively undergo a spatial and medial journey through the worldwide surrealistic movements of the 20’s and 30’s.
  • Lecture – Transforming thresholds

    April 2014: Tom Duncan gave a lecture together with Suzanne MacLeod (School of Museum Studies, Leicester) at the 'Transforming Thresholds' conference at the University of Leicester entitled 'Difficult History and Challenging Experiences: Welcoming Visitors at Imperial World Museum North'. Date: 28 April 2014. Place: University of Leicester.
  • Opening – The Glorious Georges

    April 2014: Celebrations to mark the 300th anniversary of the Hanoverian accession to the British throne have been ongoing since Easter in London's baroque palaces of Hampton Court and Kensington. The history of the early Georges is animated and really brought to life by surprising/startling media installations and a convincing lighting concept that focuses especially on telling the story of the locations.
  • Workshop – Chaos at the Museum

    April 2014: Noel McCauley took part in the 'Chaos at the Museum' event organized by the University of Arts, London and UC Davis, California, with a workshop called 'Staging Emotional Environments', which revealed key concepts on dramaturgy, emotion and levels of narrative. Tom Duncan ran a workshop called 'Difficult Histories: Visitors, Ethics and Interpretative Design' together with Jocelyn Dodd and Suzanne MacLeod (School of Museum Studies, Leicester). Date: 28 April 2014. Place: University of Arts, London (Central St. Martins).
  • Workshop Scenography Summit ´14

    April 2014: Noel McCauley was part of the 'Scenography Summit' workshop, organized by Gerhard Kilger, where museum experts and designers developed several guidelines on topical museology from different technical perspectives. Date: 29 April 2014. Place: Institute for Museum Research, Berlin.
  • Lecture – FOCUS: New Media in Museums and Exhibitions

    March 2014: Tom Duncan spoke on 'New Media in Authentic Locations'. Date: 28 March, 11:30. Place: FOCUS conference at the Brandenburg Archaeological Museum ('Archäologisches Landesmuseum Brandenburg').
  • Workshop – Winter School of Museum and Exhibition Planning

    March 2014: Duncan McCauley initiated the two-day workshop in cooperation with the German Museums Association and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. The aim was to scrutinize museum-planning processes in order to improve the quality of the planning workflows and actual realization in the museum field. Date: 27-28 March 2014.
